Studded anything is super hot this season. From studded vests, jackets, shorts, jeans, & boots; you can find this goth staple anywhere from high fashion runways to your local mall. So I asked myself why purchase one of these trendy pieces when I can easily create the look. All it took was an item that I already owned and loved, a quick purchase of studs (here), and an hour or so of time I was ready to go!
I have created a step by step tutorial so that you can recreate this studded look at home. Click "Read More" to view the full tutorial.
Enjoy!
Materials Needed:
1) Article of clothing 2) Bag of studs 3) Tool with flat bottom & pointed end (I used an ice pick because it was the first thing I found at my Grandpa's house)
Step 1: Decide how you want to arrange your studs. Lay them out and try different patterns to see
what you like best. Be creative!
Step 2: Place the stud exactly where you want it to be. The back end will have 2-4 sharp prongs
depending on what type of stud you bought. I'm using the pyramid shape. Use your fingers and
strongly push the prongs through the fabric. Also if your fabric is too thick you may need to create
the holes for the prongs to go through.
Step 3: Once the prongs are pushed through and you can see them poking out the other side you
then use your tool to fold the prongs down. Make sure that the prongs are pushed fully down,
almost to the point where they are going back in to the fabric. This is important so that when you
wear the item the prongs won't stab you.
Step 4: Repeat Step 3 for all of the studs
This is how the underside should look.
After finishing my original pattern I decided to add more studs to give it a more dramatic look.
So again I laid out the studs on the vest to create the pattern I wanted.
Completed look!

After a couple of hours and a sore left hand my studded jeans vest was complete, and I was extremely happy with the finished product! I love how it added even more personality to my vest, and definitely added to the 80s vibe that my vest already gave off.
What do you think of the studded trend?
Hope this DIY tutorial was helpful, and good luck studding!
